For me, one thing along this line that causes 'gear grinding' is answering something without giving any indication as to why that answer is correct or, on the other side, explaining things that don't require approval or explanation. Why these can not be done in the correct manner eludes me.

Excellent!!!

I have had many of the same thoughts and conclusions you've given voice to.

I've learned to cultivate a tolerance for unknowable unknowns. It's very calming. What alarms and annoys me is when actually knowable things are withheld or ignored.

Thanks for the great insights!

A burro is an ass and burrow is to dig into the ground like a gopher, right? Am I smarter than a fifth grader? (probably not)
Great blog! I prefer it when someone says they don't know than to feed me some falsehood. I do find it irritating when someone says he/she doesn't know but does it in a manner that is clear that they just cannot be bothered by trivialities right now.
When my sister first started college a few years ago I gave her one piece of advise: "If a professor asks a question that you don't know the answer to just say 'I don't know, but I can find out.'" I don't know (there it is!) whether it helped her or not, but it served me well in college.
This was a very well written blog and quite informative. Great job!
